What a whole home water system really costs in Los Angeles.
Water treatment pricing is deliberately opaque. Most companies will not publish a number, because the number is set at your kitchen table by a commissioned rep reading how much you seem able to pay. We publish ours. Here is the complete picture, including the parts of the cost that arrive after installation.
Our prices, all of them
Every figure includes equipment, professional installation, and the warranty. Sales tax is added at the end, and nothing else is.
| System | Price, installed | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard System | $2,999 | Whole home softening + carbon filtration. Most homes, our most popular |
| Whole Home XL | $3,650 | More media, longer between regenerations |
| Dual Tank System | $3,999 | Seven or more people. The longest run between regenerations |
| Salt Free + Carbon Filtration | $4,200 | No salt. Stops scale and takes out chlorine and chloramine |
| Salt Free System | $3,999 | No salt. Stops scale |
| Whole House Carbon Filtration | $3,200 | Chlorine, chloramines, VOCs and other chemicals |
| 7 stage tankless RO upgrade | +$400 | On any whole home system |
Why other quotes come back at $7,000 to $10,000
When a national brand quotes an LA homeowner, the visit usually runs like this: a scheduled in home appointment, a demonstration kit, an opening price that would startle a cardiologist, and then discounts that appear each time you hesitate. Reps at these companies can earn more than a thousand dollars per sale. That commission, the appointment infrastructure, and the national advertising budget are all inside the quote.
The equipment itself is not exotic. Softening resin, carbon media, fiberglass tanks, and control valves come from a small set of manufacturers serving the whole industry. Our systems use NSF certified components and USA made 10 percent crosslinked resin, the same grade of engineering found in systems quoted at three times the price. The difference you are paying for elsewhere is the sales process itself.
Our model removes it: published prices, quotes confirmed from a photo of your plumbing, no in home pitch. That is how the same class of system costs $2,999 instead of $7,000.
What can move the price
A few site conditions genuinely add labor, and we tell you before you commit, not on install day:
- Outdoor shut off valve: outdoor installations involve more work than a garage install. A photo of your setup lets us confirm the exact price up front.
- Trenching: when the water line requires digging, cost depends on distance.
- Equipment protection: an insulating sleeve or a rock enclosure for outdoor equipment, $100 to $175.
- Attic tie in: $250 where plumbing routes through the attic.
The ongoing costs, honestly
This is the section most websites skip. Owning a softener and RO costs roughly $200 to $300 a year, broken down like this:
- Salt: a bag every two to three months, $8 to $10 at any hardware store. Roughly $40 a year.
- RO filter set: once a year, $199 including parts and labor.
- Annual service (optional): $199 flat for a full checkup. The national brands' service visits commonly exceed $300 once the upsells land.
- Trip fees: free your entire first year, $99 after that. Lifetime warranty covers the parts themselves.
A salt free system trims this further: no salt, no drain, no electricity, just the RO filters if you have one.
What hard water costs you by doing nothing
The honest comparison includes the cost of no system. Scale shortens the life of water heaters and appliances, forces heating elements to burn more energy, and quietly increases soap and detergent spending. Industry and utility studies consistently put the cost of hard water damage at hundreds of dollars per year for a typical hard water household. Over a decade, doing nothing is usually the most expensive option on this page.
The bottom line: complete whole home treatment for an LA home runs $2,999 to $4,200 with us before sales tax, installed and warrantied, plus a couple hundred a year to own. If a quote you are holding is double that, ask what the extra money buys. Then ask them to publish their prices.
